GSQT – It is very skeptical about some private university consider itself as “non-profit university”, even with the fact that Ministry of Education and Training does not confirm this.
In US, some non-profit university reinvest their profit into the general goals and the operation of the university. That is the key reason for the birth of non-profit university and also for making sure that it operates according to that. The very first non-profit university in US is Harvard, which is now having 37,6 billion dollars in allowance.
From these information, if a university wants to operate in a non-profit way, it needs sponsor from the government, the alumni association, the allowance from community and it also needs effective financial system. Even though Vietnamese culture appreciates Education, Vietnam is one of the developing country with the GDP of 171,1 billion USD (according to World Bank in 2013). Moreover, in the previous decades, only a few in the total Vietnamese population can save for large assets. For these reasons, Vietnam is not financially ready for non-profit and stable activities.
Non-profit university is an ideal structure that many educationists are pursuing. It is encouraging for Vietnam to operate a truly non-profit university. Those who take advantage of the flaws in Vietnamese education to cause negative behavior need to be strictly punished according to the law.
