GSQT – To reduce the number of unemployed high-level workers, universities need to change the way they teach.
At the 18th Asian International Conference held by Human Resource Development Association, Foreign Trade University and Viettel Academy on January 6th, PhD. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Director of Higher Education, cited statistics from General Statistics Office showing that there are currently 125,000 – 135,000 of the 5,000,000 Vietnamese high-level workers without jobs.
Explaining that the quality of higher education does not meet the requirements of employers, many argue that the model of higher education administration has not been renewed. The material is improved but there are many limitations when theories and practices are still far apart.
In the context of rapid scientific progress, improving the quality of human resources is considered as one of three strategic and breakthrough solutions to increase labor productivity and competitiveness of the economy, due to that universities need to change the way they teach according to 4 solutions.
- Higher education institutions should be proactive and creative in renovating the governance model towards advanced direction, focusing on infrastructure investment, improving the quality of lecturers and management staff.
- Developing high quality training programs in foreign languages and focusing on strong industries.
- Incorporating higher education institutions and enterprises to train according to labor market needs.
- It is necessary to promote international exchange, exchange and cooperation in training and scientific research, attracting overseas Vietnamese lecturers and international students to participate in domestic and foreign teaching and training programs.
PhD. Bui Quang Tuyen, Director of Viettel Academy, said that universities need to change the way they teach to connect businesses with universities. There is a “quite interesting” shift as businesses are trying to become learning organizations to make up for the lack of student knowledge and universities are trying to bring business requirements closer to lectures.
