GSQT – According to Bui Van Ga – Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education and Training, the change from essay questions format to multiple choices questions format in 2017 national high school exam will be the basis to approach online multiple choices test format with questions ranging from combined to integrated topics.

After the pronounce of 2017 national high school exam format, The Minister of Ministry of Education and Training informed that the questions bank are being built carefully in order to provide each student with a separate exam. In the past two years, the exam was designed at basic level to serve the purpose of graduation assessment and college or university admissions. The percent of basic knowledge was 60% and 40% for advanced knowledge. However, this year, the Ministry will have a more careful calculation for the knowledge rate and national high school exam format will soon be online multiple choices test.

The Ministry have also considered advices from experts, teachers and have made a few adjustments. The Foreign Language exam, from having 40 questions as planned, now increases to 50 questions with the exam length of 60 minutes in the official format. The number of questions of each subject from Natural Sciences and Social Sciences also increase from 20 to 40, the exam length increase to 50 minutes per subject. These adjustments are made to suit with the design of this year’s exam.

Over the past years, the Ministry has been adjusting and updating the admission software for better coherence. This year’s admissions software has several modules, including modules which help schools choose the list of expected passing candidates. Schools will base on this list to define the number of candidates will be admitted, avoiding virtual examinees.

In high school teaching, the Ministry instructs schools to have a good combination between essay and multiple choices questions at different level so that they can evaluate student’s knowledge throughout the learning period. In the national high school exam, the Ministry also requires to build the matrix of exam at level corresponding to the study and review in schools. Schools will have to provide enough reviews for students so that they don’t have to go to review center.

The renovation of the national high school exam cannot be done at once but has to follow steps, avoiding shocking the examinees. The Ministry has a three-year renovation plan for 2015 to 2017. In 2015, exam format will be changed. In 2017, the exam format will be changed from essay to multiple choices questions. The exam will also change from combined to integrated one, approaching online multiple choices test instead of paper exam. Therefore, students need not to worry much.
