GSQT – Singapore believed that investing in people was the key to become the first intelligent country in the world.
Ly Hien Long – Singapore Prime Minister – said talented people would make a leading country in technology. According to PISA, Singapore is a country having the smartest high school students in the world.
In the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) held by Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 12/2016, Singapore students had won 1st place in Math in English and Science in English. Mrs. Gabriela Ramos, OECD, claimed that “Singapore one again has the highest result with the average score is 564, which is 70 more than other countries’ average scores.”
If the education investing in people has made Singapore prosperous, then the key to that is at well-qualified teachers and appropriate teaching method.
First, the most excellent college students would be chosen to become teachers and transmit their knowledge to the next generation. And about the teaching method, their secret is that they don’t classify the students according to their levels. If teacher wants to teach new lesson, he/she has to assure that struggling students have already understood the lesson before thoroughly, from that other kids would have time to review lessons, and tutoring classes could also be reduced.
Singapore education do not encourage learn by heart method, they focus more on students’ solving problem ability. To them, it’s more essential for investing in people and teach kids how to apply their knowledge into real situations, not only theory.
