GSQT – Singapore is known as the most advanced education in Southeast Asia, so many junior and senior high school students are looking for Singapore scholarships.
ASEAN Scholarship
ASEAN scholarships, lasting for 4 years, are awarded to students in grade 8 to 10 who have excellent academic achievements and participate in extracurricular activities, including:
– Annual dorm allowance.
– Full tuition fee.
– Subsistence allowance of SGD 2,200/year for upper secondary and 2,400 SGD/year for university preparatory courses.
– Settlement allowance.
– Return plane ticket.
– O/A-level exam fee.
– Medical benefits and accident insurance.
Singapore scholarships are jointly implemented and selected by Singapore Ministry of Education and Singapore Embassy in ASEAN. In Vietnam, after passing the preliminary round in March, candidates are invited to Hanoi or HCMC to the entrance exam. The writing round usually takes place in May, with interviews in July and September announcing the results.
Scholarship winners will arrive in Singapore in October for a three-month course, ready to enter the new academic year on January 1st every year.
Students who apply for ASEAN scholarship cannot choose the school but will be appointed by Singapore government. Upon matriculation and arrival in October, students know which school they attend.
Upon graduation, students receive Singapore Higher Education Certificate (GCE A-level) or equivalent. Students who receive this scholarship will study for two years of high school and two years of pre-university studies in Singapore schools.
ASTAR Scholarship (ACIS)
As Singapore scholarships awarded to students in grade 8 to 10 of ASEAN countries, ASTAR includes:
– Full tuition fee.
– Subsistence allowance of SGD 2,200/year for upper secondary and 2,400 SGD/year for university preparatory courses.
– Dormitory money.
– Return plane ticket.
– SGD 200 allowance for stability when new to Singapore.
– O/A-level exam fee.
– Medical benefits and insurance policies.
The number applications for scholarships are assigned to the school for direct selection. Therefore, students are not allowed to apply for ASTAR scholarships without the school’s selection. After that, Singaporean teachers went to ASEAN countries and organized examinations to award scholarships.
Students need to take tests including Math, English, IQ and interviews. Every year, there are two applications for admission to ASTAR in April and September.
