GSQT – Avoiding psychological pressure for students and teachers, HCMC recommends that the education sector drop rankings in class.
Standing Committee of HCMC People’s Committee has just asked Department of Education and Training to study and adjust the study time of students in the morning, which is too early, increasing the break time between hours, drop rankings in class so as not to cause psychological pressure on students, reduce competition pressure for teachers.
Currently, many schools in HCMC still rank students according to their academic capacity (grade point average) in the period or the end of the school year. This move was made because in the previous meeting of the city leaders, students talked a lot about the pressure of academic achievement and examination. They suggest that the school drop rankings in class, because this makes parents compare their child’s achievement to other people, increasing the teachers’ track record, making the pressure of students very great. Rankings sometimes cause “side effects” when many students are frustrated, do not want to study anymore.
In addition, the city education sector is also assigned to survey facilities of vocational classrooms, practice rooms, computers in schools; overcoming the overcrowded situation; test, integrate social knowledge… Schools strengthen propaganda against child abuse, topics to prevent and treat school violence.
The city also assigned 24 districts to hold annual student meetings, listen to their thoughts and suggestions for best solutions on time.
