GSQT – At Youth Entrepreneurship Forum 2018, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung proposed English as the second language of Vietnam.
Master Tran Tin Nghi, Director of Foreign Language University of HCMC Food Industry, said: “The investment in teaching English today is not enough to propose English as the second language, but only foreign language. If big cities like Hanoi, HCMC, Danang are fully qualified to implement this in the next 5 or 10 years, it will be feasible.”
Professor Do Minh Hung, a senior lecturer at Dong Thap University, said: “We have to improve the training and using English to achieve the goal of speaking English fluently as the first international language, because English is clearly the language of international transactions.”
Professor Pham Vu Phi Ho, Managing Director of Van Hien University, said: “Proposing English as the second language is right. In order to achieve this goal, changing policy must apply towards internationalization in schools, recruit foreign professors for service, follow by a series of changes in salary and visa to attract human resources from around the world.”
Doctor Pham Huu Duc, Lecturer in Linguistics International University – VNU, said: “First of all, we have to have a roadmap, it is advisable to apply the model that East Asian countries are implementing, which is EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction), means using English to teach other subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Economics… After the model is successful, then replicate.”
