GSQT – MOET in 2018 – 2019 school year, forecasting HCM city will increase about 60,000 students, including districts with increasing number of students such as Binh Tan District, Tan Phu District, District 12… before new school year comes.
Although HCMC has made great efforts to build thousands more classrooms each year, but with the number of students increasing rapidly, ensuring enough seats for students is urgent required districts to reduce the rate of 2 times per day, rising population of classes.
Increased over 4,000 students but there are only 11 new classrooms
As the district focuses many industrial areas, export processing zones, Binh Tan district has always bear 65% of migrants. At present, the population of Binh Tan district is about 750,000 people. The number of children in grade 1 at this district always increases much more than other districts.
When new school year comes, the number of children in the first grade of this district is 14,160 children increased over 4,000 children over the previous school year. At secondary school, only 5,400 students graduated from grade 9 but up to 8,400 students in grade 6.
District 12, Go Vap District, Tan Binh District, Thu Duc District are also districts with higher initial enrollment rate but the number of new schools is very low, so the number of students is reduced twice. Specifically, in District 12, the rate of two-day classes at this year’s level is expected to be about 20.1% over the previous school year by 24%.
Similarly, in Tan Phu district, this year it is estimated that the number of children in Grade 1 is about 8,600 children, while no new primary school is put into.
With the number of students in grade 1 increase, to ensure that the school district is expected to reduce the rate of two classes per day to prioritize the first grade. Accordingly, in the new school year, the whole district has only 4 primary schools with 100% students are taught 2 times a day including some primary schools, such as Tan Son Nhi, Au Co, Ho Van Cuong, Tan Huong.
Focus on improving the quality of teaching
The number of students increased rapidly each year, besides ensuring the place for students, the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City is very focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning in new school year comes.
Under initial enrollment plan of this district, many places have more schools implementing the advanced school model in the trend of integration, expanding integrated English program at all levels.
To intensify the renovation of teaching methods, attaching importance to integrating inter-disciplinary teaching, STEM-oriented teaching, project-based teaching, aiming to develop the pupils’ capacity, develop their skills, attach importance to the development of talents, develop real life skills for students.
This year, HCMC has 3 more schools are Nguyen Thuong Hien, Phu Nhuan and Mac Dinh Chi high school enrollment, bringing the total number of high schools to 7 schools enrollment grade 10 this program.
In addition to integrated English program, in school year 2018 – 2019, many districts also have more advanced schools in the trend of adding to international environment.
As in District 2, An Binh Primary School and Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School implemented advanced model school. In District 1, Be Ngoan Kindergarten School and Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School implemented advanced model school.
