GSQT – In addition to SAT certificate recognized by many universities in the world, ACT is also the minimum requirement for students to continue their study in the United States. So, what is ACT preparation experience?
If SAT is quite familiar with Vietnamese students, ACT has only started to become popular recently. However, ACT also has many advantages compared to SAT.
ACT test consists of four compulsory parts: English, Math, Reading and Science, and a non-compulsory writing section, as follows:
- English: 75 questions – 45 minutes.
- Math: 60 questions – 60 minutes.
- Reading: 40 questions – 35 minutes.
- Science: 40 questions – 35 minutes.
- Essay (optional): 1 essay – 30 minutes.
Unlike SAT, ACT test does not go into the trick, or vocabulary, but rather the time pressure. Therefore, for ACT preparation, you should have ACT preparation experience.
- Partial and central preparation
Let’s start from hard to simple. Conquering the parts that you are struggling first will be the foundation for you to pass ACT test easily. If vocabulary is the main pressure of SAT, time is the main pressure of ACT, especially in the Science, Reading and English sections.
Not only that, Science is a bit strange to Vietnamese students. Science does not test science knowledge but rather test reasoning and reading charts, tables, plus terminology, that’s the reason you should focus on this part first. Each student will have a particular weak point so the preparation is still doing mock tests in order to find out which part you’re not good at then start learning from that one.
- Preparation books
Some good preparation books you should refer to are: 1.296 ACT Practice Questions; Barron’s ACT 6 Practice Tests; Cracking the ACT; McGraw-Hill’s ACT…
- ACT preparation with real tests
You should understand some types of exercises that ACT test usually has, understand ACT test solving skills, use all existing tests. Available ACT materials on the market compared to SAT ones can be said to be way fewer. So, try to do all the exercises in the reference books, exam questions and so you’ve got ACT preparation experience.
