GSQT – When international diplomas help Vietnamese students study abroad, learning international courses such as IB, A-level, IGCSE… becomes an extremely important thing to do. Nevertheless, the language barrier makes it difficult to catch up with the subjects of each program, especially with core subjects like Math. So, what are the differences in Math in English programs?
National Math program
In Vietnam, subjects follow an in-depth path, studying the roots of the problems, that is the reason why the national program is considered as quite “heavy”, compared to many other countries’. However, this can be a suitable way to foster students who show their talents early. Theories are abstract and hard to absorb but will act as a good base to help solving any given problems.
The biggest problem with Math program is that it is unnecessarily sophisticated when it comes to students’ capacity to develop their reasoning. For instance, the most difficult math problem in high school can raise difficulties to any Math bachelor. It’s easy to see that students who can study Math well enough have better ability of reasoning above normal. With that in mind, will Math in English programs make any difficulties to students?
International Math program
In the international Math program, either IB Math, A-level Math or IGCSE Math, they are all expand and applicable oriented. The knowledge given is supposed to be the support base for other subjects. Additionally, Cambridge’s curriculums aim to foster and develop necessary skills to support their study in either higher education or future work place.
To Vietnamese students, Math in English programs also effectively helps with improving language skills. Once overcome the language barrier, students will be set free to learn the most out of extraordinarily applicable and interesting textbooks. Most international programs follow a 2-year process, parents will need to thoroughly research to make a good plan to prepare their children as soon as possible to reach the goal of studying abroad.
