GSQT – In US, students don’t have university entrance exam like in Vietnam. However, if candidates want to apply to several universities, they must submit the certificate to be able to assess the knowledge, skills and proficiency in the major they would like to study. In particular, ACT is an entry requirement in US with the objective of examining thinking skill which is necessary for students to acquire knowledge at university. So, how is the ACT structure?
SAT and ACT are two certificates received much attention from students who have desire to study in US. Most popular universities have required students to submit SAT or ACT. Despite of releasing later, ACT has begun to be popular in the South and Midwest of US. But how is the ACT structure?
ACT structure includes parts: English, Maths, Reading, Sciences and Writing. English has 75 questions (45 minutes) which mainly checks spelling, grammar, using words ability sensibly and concisely. Mathematics has 60 questions (60 minutes) focusing on math skills, even the exam is not difficult but requires knowledge of calculus to do well. For the reading of 40 sentences (35 minutes) are often more complex and difficult to understand than English part, which has very little time. Science consists of 40 sentences (35 minutes) to evaluate scientific thinking of candidates. The majority of questions are quite hard to guess. And the final part is essay (not required) within 30 minutes. Each ACT has 1-36 points. The maximum GPA of ACT is 36.
As ACT structure above, ACT has been becoming alternative to SAT because of many advantages and ACT exam preparation will help supporting students knowledge from basic to advanced, be more confident on the way to achieve dream of studying abroad. ACT results do not evaluate the intelligence or intellectual capacity of students, which focus on assessing what students have learned from school and the exam is “stick” on curriculums. Therefore, there are many ideas that ACT is more suitable for students in Vietnam. ACT is also more appropriate with those who are good at quantitative subjects than English, reading comprehension and writing. In addition, writing is a required section of SAT while it’s an elective part of ACT. Though it’s not compulsory, but many universities are now also requiring essay writing score as a vital part in the selection. So you know how is the ACT structure.
