GSQT – When studying abroad in the season with the fall semester, the most important intake, which often accounts for 70% of new international students in major study abroad markets, is witnessing the opposite situation: people smiling, crying silently…
Unlike the gloomy atmosphere last year when many young people chose to stay in Vietnam, studying abroad in the season is “warming” gradually. However, there are also places that are still frozen and cold.
US: Slowly returning to activity
In 2020, Phan Thi Anh Thy (20 years old, Can Tho) missed the opportunity to go to the US. Despite being accepted to a university in Oregon, but due to the stressful epidemic, Thy did not dare to go abroad. This year, she continued to be admitted to San Jose City College, California, but unlike last time, Thy will prepare to leave in time to enroll in August.
Worth mentioning, even the University of San Jose City College actively welcomes you. Over the past time, the school has continuously updated the situation of disease control, vaccination information and sent letters promising to support “best” for those who will come to the US this term, through orientation programs, registration subjects, accommodation… Also from next semester, the school will for the first time offer a lot of focused courses after nearly a year of forced online learning.
Last year, Nguyen Hoang Phuc (HCMC) while a student at Danville Community High School in Indiana (USA) returned to Vietnam to “avoid” the epidemic. In Vietnam, Phuc had to stay up all night to study remotely due to time zone differences, while studying for the SAT to transfer to university. It is only until the next fall semester that things gradually stabilize. Phuc will return to the US after a hiatus of many months to attend the University of Cincinnati (Ohio) to major in business analysis.
Mr. Trang Tan Phuoc, of Navitas Group, a partner of many universities in North America, said that thanks to active vaccination, many places in the US gradually returned to normal. In addition, the new government’s policies on studying abroad are also more open than before. These are some of the main reasons for the double-digit increase in the number of Vietnamese students returning to the US and Canada markets.
Australia: Tired of waiting for entry
Contrary to the US, the way to Australia for Vietnamese students is still quite far. Dang Quang Thien (21 years old, HCMC) has been admitted to Macquarie University (Australia) from 2020 and is scheduled to enroll from October 2020. Due to the country’s “closed border” policy, Thien and many international students have been “stuck” in the country so far. Not liking “studying abroad but studying online”, Thien reserved, waiting for the day to arrive in Australia and “study temporarily” at HCMC Banking University.
Mr. Lam Minh Khoa, representative of Newcastle University (Australia) in Vietnam, shared that the Australian Government is still strictly controlling the border, and prioritizing vaccination for the entire population, basically completed in November. 2021. If everything goes according to schedule, it is expected that Australia will not be able to allow a certain number of international students until early 2022.
UK: Vietnamese students increased by 160%
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Van, representative of Bournemouth University (UK) in Vietnam, said that according to the survey, the picture of studying abroad in the season in the UK is much brighter than in the same period last year. For example, the number of Vietnamese students coming to the UK for the autumn semester of 2021 quickly recovered by 73% compared to the time before the epidemic in 2019. Compared to 2020, the number of students who will study here next semester increases almost 160%.
This survey also shows that more than 70% of you are ready to “go abroad” from this summer. The progress of vaccination and the ability to control the epidemic in some localities have helped universities in this country “revive”. At the same time, the policy to support international students continues to be expanded. For example, after being isolated in the UK, you can be tested and registered for free vaccinations.
