GSQT – Vietnam continues to rank 6th among the countries with international students in the US, in which 23,777 students at university level in the academic year 2019-2020. Vietnamese students contributed $827 million to the US economy in this academic year.
Those are noteworthy information about the annual Open Doors report of the Institute of International Education (IIE) just released. In 23,777 Vietnamese who are international students in the US, 69.8% attend university, 15.3% graduate, and 11.4% participate in the optional internship program (OPT), and the remaining 3.5% attend non-degree programs.
The data also shows a slight increase in the number of American students coming to Vietnam, from 1,228 in the 2017-2018 school year to 1,235 in the 2018-2019 school year. According to this report, international students continue to account for 5.5% of the total number of undergraduate students in the US with 1,075,496 students in the 2019-2020 school year.
International students in the US continue to show strong interest in disciplines in STEM. More than half (52%) of the total number of international students study this major. Although down 4.4% from before, engineering is still the most popular field with a fifth of students studying in this field. Math, Computer Science and Physics continued to increase by 0.9% and 1.2%, respectively.
The top 10 states in terms of international student enrollment continued to be California, New York, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. However, due to the influence of the pandemic, if the student wishes to return to home country, he or she may be admitted to overseas affiliate programs at universities and colleges in Vietnam.
Accordingly, the school will base on the study program and study results of overseas students to consider exemption and recognition of credit for students according to the training regulations. Vietnamese and international students can register to study a number of modules as desired. At the end of the module, students will be issued a certificate of completion by the school with study results.
For students who dropped out, they cannot accept because the schools only accept students who are attending schools with the same (or higher) ranking of the school in the worldwide rankings.
