GSQT – IGCSE is a popularly taught international high school certificate covering many subjects. The number of subjects surprised many students in knowing how to choose the subject of the IGCSE program that was suitable for their own level.

IGCSE is the most popular international secondary education certificate for students in the first two years of high school-aged 14 to 16. Certifications focus on giving an excellent foundation for the future. Having an IGCSE certificate will open up opportunities to continue studying in a modern and professional education system at home or abroad.
Each subject in the program is rated from an A* to a G. If a student receives a G, it is treated as a U (this means not graded). A* is a rare score, with only about 7% of students achieving an A* with different assessment methods in each subject.

How to choose the subject of IGCSE program?
Students will choose courses from core subjects along with electives such as Foreign Languages, Arts or Humanities. At the end of the program, students will receive an IGCSE certificate for each subject they have successfully completed.
Usually, at schools, compulsory IGCSE subjects include English, Mathematics, and Science. Each student in the IGCSE program usually chooses at least 5 and at most 14 subjects in the following 5 groups:
- Group 1: English
- English – First language
- English – Second language
- English – Literature
- World Literature
- Group 2: Language
- French
- German
- ..
- Group 3: Humanities
- Economics
- History
- Geography
- Global Perspectives
- Group 4: Science
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Environmental Management
- Group 5: Math

Based on the differences in each student’s learning abilities, there are two IGCSE levels to choose from, Core and Extended.
Each subject in IGCSE Core is designed to best suit most of the students, with mainly introductory but most basic knowledge. Children who choose this level usually have a target test score of the only C to G.
IGCSE Extended includes knowledge in Core level and advanced knowledge, for more academic level and closer to higher level such as A-level, AP, IB… Students choose the Extended level towards scores to range from A* to E.
To be able to know how to choose the subject of IGCSE program, students must think and learn carefully about the subjects before registering. When studying subjects that you personally enjoy, the pressure will decrease a lot and increase learning efficiency.
