GSQT – After “the fever” of education integration and internationalization, the trend of localization and integration of cultural identities has become a core foundation in modern education.
You could say that traditional culture is a solid base for children to develop their critical thinking assets and overall skills, especially at preschool and elementary age. In particular, the process of children’s self-education takes place in three environments: in their family, at school, and in the surrounding community.
Through the relationships between man and nature, the relation of man and man to himself, children gradually form their own personality, worldview, human perspectives, and knowledge system.
Because indigenous culture is an essential part of the maturity of humans, children can easily “learn to know, learn to do, learn to live together” (educational goals of UNESCO). Knowing why the integration of cultural identities is necessary, many countries have developed a curriculum framework based on the beautiful cultural values of ethnicity.
In Vietnam, traditional cultural education is not merely a “source”, but it requires a deeply profound understanding of the positive aspects of traditional culture. Besides, limitations and inadequacies need to be oriented in education by giving a selection of choices in a context and in new social conditions.
In the trend of globalization, traditional culture and national identity create an independent value of each nation and ethnicity. Education plays a very important role in preserving traditional cultural value in the process of globalization.
Instead of focusing only on the integration of cultural identities, the development of knowledge and skills, other aspects of general education must help students to be acutely aware and have appropriate conducts about social, cultural, and religious values of our own ethnicity.
