GSQT – Recently, Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges in collaboration with Orient Research and Development Institute held a scientific seminar with the theme: “Teachers in the new era”.
Sharing at the seminar, Dr. Vu Ngoc Hoang – Vice President of Vietnam Association of Universities and Colleges made an analysis and discussion about the teacher today.
Computers cannot replace teachers
In recent years, with the rapid advancement of information technology, there has been an opinion that the role of a teacher will not be as important as before. That opinion also has a reason, because information technology will function to transmit knowledge, but basically the above opinion is not correct. The role of teachers in the new era does not diminish, but instead increases because knowledge transfer education will turn to capacity development education. Even information technology must operate according to the programs and content created by the teacher.
In every age, in every country, the teacher has his own characteristics, but what is the most common point of the teacher? They must be examples of personality, honesty, kindness, devotion, having the courage to defend political views and truths, on the side of right for life. Knowledge and personality are two important factors that make a teacher’s mark on the career of “planting people”.
What are the differences between teachers then and now?
The world is changing very fast, the achievements of science and technology and knowledge contributed by mankind have been immense and improved in quality, multi-dimensional information, diverse and multi-modal approaches.
Information technology will fundamentally replace the knowledge transfer function of teachers in the new era. At that time, the teacher will have more time to guide students how to learn, approach, self-seeking, analysis and synthesis. Students must become themselves, with greater competence and awareness, rather than the result of someone figuring out the subjective will imposed by the “stylist”.
Teachers need to help students learn by themselves, transfer the training process to self-training, have independent thinking and bravery to protect their scientific truths and political views. Accordingly, the teacher must have a good deal in modern educational science, psychology, as an educator, a cultural and an artist.
