GSQT – Teaching IT to students helps them think well about algorithms, master programming skills, improve confidence, creativity and critical thinking.
Mr. Ho Dac Phuong, a lecturer at University of Technology, said the current teaching IT to students in Vietnam is very old-fashioned. At University of Technology, only about a quarter of students go straight to the faculty of IT is having good programming foundation. The majority of the remaining 3/4 students who are university examiners in block A and A1 have almost no knowledge of programming.
At high school level, teaching IT to students is an elective subject, not among the graduation exam subjects. The results are not used for university admissions, even for IT departments. Many students cannot complete basic programming exercises after finishing their studies.
Meanwhile, the development of every nation is tied to the 4.0 revolution. Thanks to computers and digital technology, many changes will occur in labor, production, science and technology. From there, they will have a career orientation soon and see the applicability of Math and IT.
Around the world, UK was the first country to make programming compulsory in elementary and secondary schools, with programs suitable for each age group.
According to the latest source from Nikkei, Japan, from April 2020, Japan has also officially made Computer programming be the compulsory subject in high schools.
Recognizing the importance and urgency of teaching IT in high schools, Ministry of Education and Training also has the plan for teaching IT to students in the new General Education Program.
Specifically, IT is determined as the compulsory subject with differentiation at elementary and junior high schools. Particularly in high schools, IT is divided in two directions: Applied Informatics and Computer Science.
Thus, helping students study well from now to prepare well for the future is essential. IT teachers will actively improve their professional knowledge so that they can teach students more useful knowledge. Parents can support by enabling their children to learn and pursue their passion for IT.
