GSQT – Recently, more than 100 delegates from domestic and foreign education experts attended the seminar in HCMC discuss higher education to improve practical quality.
From the lessons of UK education, experts recognize that increasing practice requires the active participation of businesses. Here, a representative from Birmingham City University (UK) shared his experience using qualitative research in international contexts.
Professor Tran Thi Hong, Vice Rector of University of Nguyen Tat Thanh, said: “The theme of the seminar is to combine teaching and learning, thereby forming a collaborative community in practice and teaching. Many experts have the solutions for higher education to improve practical quality such as student-centered coordination, school and business collaboration, so that graduates can gain good practical skills, solid knowledge to meet business needs.”
In addition, the seminar also gives educators, lecturers and students on business and learning opportunities to discuss creative research methods that support learning and professional development in international contexts.
According to Ms. Hong, in UK, the connection between schools and businesses is very tight. All university models have centers for businesses to set up laboratories and provide for students visit and practice.
Although good practice, Ms. Hong said that it would not be easy for Vietnamese schools to implement. “Vietnamese schools can apply this approach to higher education to improve practical quality, but the issue is to corporate social responsibility. In UK, their businesses have the very clear idea that when they graduate students to work, they contribute back to the business. In Vietnam, it is rare for businesses to put in a factory, or a new machine… for students to practice”.
At the same time, according to her, students coming to an internship business are only allowed to watch from afar, businesses are afraid of students’ failure so they have little access to production, they do not recognize the responsibility to train students but often have feeling bothered. Each year, businesses often contribute with scholarships, but the contribution by intelligence, technology and production perspectives for students has not been done.
