GSQT – IB English HL is a course in six-subject group that students must take when learning IB program. If you have chosen this course at HL then how to study IB English HL effectively?
IB English HL is a course in the IB curriculum which consists of 2 levels: SL (Standard Level) and HL (Higher Level).
HL requires 240 study hours (instead of 150 hours as SL) and the goal of IB English HL course is to:
- Introduce document in various periods, styles and genres.
- Help students develop the ability to analyze individual texts and create related connections.
- Develop students’ proficiency in both oral and written.
- Encourage students to recognize the importance of the context in which the text is written.
- Remind students to respect for different views of others.
The choice of attend in which level is based on the ability and intentions of students entering the university. The goal of the course at two levels is not different but HL requires you to study deeper and analyze more literature works.
The first way to know how to study IB English HL was to read a lot of books, scripts and novels in different genres and periods to expand the knowledge about different fields as well as the period of world literature.
Then record all the notes on the content of the work as well as the time when the story takes place, when the author writes it, the historical context… This is very important as it will help you to remind about the cultural context of the work, thus making a deeper analysis.
You have to be clear about the subject and the main points that complement the theme of each work you have read. Because IB English HL must accumulate a lot of knowledge to be able to pass the requirements of the exam in this program.
Another way to get how to study IB English HL is to refer to the culture, national historical context at the time the author writes. These references are a more in-depth analysis of how the birth of a work is in the historical context, thereby understanding the issue which author wishes to convey.
Moreover, you should study some citations or from each text you read through. This is also a specific way to make your work more appreciated.
