MOET experiments teaching Russian, Chinese and Japanese

GSQT – According to 2020 language scheduled scheme, in addition to the main objective of improving the quality of teaching and learning English in the system of national education, MOET also pilots teaching Russian, Chinese and Japanese as first foreign languages.
In 2016-2017 academic year, the Ministry has piloted teaching Japanese in 3rd grades in 5 schools in Hanoi and HCMC, including Nguyen Du, Khuong Thuong, Chu Van An, Gateway International and Vietnam Australia primary school (HCMC). This subject is replicated across the country, especially locals with aspirations and conditions of deployment.
The Ministry will develop common educational programs in Russian, Chinese in 10 years, from 3rd through 12th grades under the 6-level-framework of foreign language competence for Vietnam in 2017. The Ministry will also issue and publish this program soon for evaluation as a basis for compiling, selecting textbooks and learning materials for teaching and learning in schools.
Besides Chinese and Japanese, Korean, French is experimental taught as second foreign languages. This school year, Korean was piloted in 6th and 10th grade at a number of schools which have aspirations in Hanoi and HCMC. The 2017-2025 period, foreign languages will in turn be deployed in the next class of secondary and high school. After the pilot, the schools with eligibility and needs can continue teaching Korean as a second language.
French teaching continue to be innovated, adjusting French bilingual programs from elementary school to high school in the direction of streamlining and modernization. At the same time, completing the French as secondary foreign language book volumes 1 to suit the context of Vietnam.
Minister Phung Xuan Nha said immediate projects focused on improving the quality of English, but also encourage provinces depending on the actual situation to pilot teaching other languages.
“The learners of foreign languages who want rapid progress in the study should expand communicating with native teachers and students abroad. Learning languages, such as Chinese and Japanese, you have to reach to the people who speak it.”
